If it’s time to renovate your bathroom, one of the simplest ways is to do so is by applying a fresh coat of paint. Interior house painting doesn’t have to be complicated!
Since many bathrooms are very small, you probably won’t have to spend more than a day on your weekend taking care of this project.
If you have been around for quite some time, you probably know that we always recommend hiring a professional painting contractor rather than DIY.
However, if you need to give DIY a try, here is how to go about repainting your bathroom.
Remove any objects and ornaments or accessories from the sink and bathtub from the wall.
Remove the mirrors and covers from the sockets and switches, the towel racks, the window fittings, or the handles on the cabinets.
Put masking tape around the baseboard and on the door and window frames to avoid splashing paint in those locations.
Use tape at least 5 centimeters wide.
Smooth the tape with a spatula to ensure that it sticks completely and to prevent the paint from running under the tape.
Place a canvas covering on the floor, over the bathtub, and on the cabinets.
Make sure that the edges of the covering are facing up and stretched against the baseboard to avoid any splash of paint on the unprotected areas of the floor.
If Necessary, Paint the Ceiling First.
Use a brush around the corners between the ceiling and the walls. Finish the job using a paint roller attached to an extender.
Wait for the appropriate drying time and then apply a second coat of paint to the ceiling.
If necessary, apply a primer to the walls. If your bathroom is dark and you want to make it lighter with a lighter and softer color, you should prepare the walls.
Follow the manufacturer’s instructions for application details and drying times.
Use a brush to paint around windows, doors, corners, sockets, switch openings, and along the ceiling and baseboards.
Start in a corner and work in the same direction throughout the room.
Use A Roller To Paint The Larger Areas Of The Walls.
Just like you painted the primer, start in a corner, and work in the same direction throughout the bathroom.
Paint using vertical movements. Avoid pressing the paint roller too hard.
If necessary, repeat with a second coat. Many paint manufacturers recommend applying 2 coats of paint to obtain the best possible results. Be sure to wait for the recommended drying time between coats.
Pro Tips
Keep paint rollers and brushes wet between applications by wrapping them in plastic wrap or aluminum foil.
In bathrooms, it is best to use a semi-gloss finish resistant to mold and mildew.
Remove the mold from the walls and treat the surface before painting.
Tap the brush lightly inside the can to remove excess paint and avoid splashing.
Note:
- Do not use plastic sheets as a canvas, because they can be slippery if paint spills on them. If you don’t have the painter’s canvas, use a thick cloth, as it will absorb ink drops or splashes.
